2024 Week 3 wrap-up

The college landscape is changing, and we're already seeing the effects in a very interesting start to the season.

We're down to just four Power conferences at the moment, until we figure out what happens to the Pac-12 as they reload.  All of the rest of the conferences have officially abandoned divisions, so the conference races are turning into free-for-alls.  Honestly, it's taking a lot of fun out of this blog because the paths to conference championship games are less clear.

I'm wondering if we're on the verge of another crazy season, maybe not quite like 2007, but close.  A lot of big teams are already becoming more comfortable scheduling big non-conference games, and we're seeing a lot of upsets and close games across the board.  Meanwhile, everyone is becoming more comfortable with the idea that they have a little bit of a cushion with the 12-team playoff and a single loss doesn't immediately knock them out of contention.

Remember, everything here is conference record only.

ACC
Syracuse (1-0)
   W:  GT
BC (1-0)
   W:  FSU
uva (1-0)
   W:  WF
GT (1-1)
   W:  FSU
   L:  Syracuse

Wake Forest (0-1)
   L:  uva
FSU (0-2)
   L:  GT, BC

Yet to play:  Cal, Duke, Miami, UNC, Pitt, Louisville, NC State, SMU, VT, Clemson, Stanford

Florida State became the first team ever to be #17 in the ACC standings, and they seem to be doing everything they can to hold on to that distinction.

SEC
Georgia (1-0)
   W:  Kentucky
LSU (1-0)
   W:  SC
Texas A&M (1-0)
   W:  Florida
South Carolina (1-1)
   W:  Kentucky
   L:  LSU

Florida (0-1)
   L:  Texas A&M
Kentucky (0-2)
   L:  SC, Georgia

Yet to play:  Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State

Big Ten
Indiana (1-0)
   W:  UCLA
Michigan State (1-0)
   W:  Maryland
Maryland (0-1)
   L:  Michigan State
UCLA (0-1)
   L:  Indiana

Yet to play:  Illinois, Nebraska, Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, USC, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Washington, Wisconsin, Purdue

I see that the Big Ten is still insisting on scheduling as few conference games in the first three weeks of the season as possible.

Big 12
UCF (1-0)
   W:  TCU
TCU (0-1)
   L:  UCF

Yet to play:  Kansas State, Utah, Arizona State, BYU, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Arizona, Baylor, Cincinnati, Colorado, Texas Tech, Houston, Kansas, WVU

Well, it looks like the Big 12 is even more stingy with conference games in the first three weeks.  And yet, somehow, the Arizona/Kansas State game is a non-conference game.

Looks like next week's wrap up post is going to blow up.
