I'm sure there's a lot of folks underwhelmed by how the first round of the first 12-team CFP played out.  So let's go down the "what if" rabbit hole and see what our postseason would most likely look like in last year's format.

Divisionless championships

One of the reasons I liked divisions within conferences is that it guaranteed that every team in the conference had played at least one of the two teams in the championship game.

In this era of divisionless conferences and conferences twice as large as a yearly schedule can accommodate, are we still getting that kind of representation?

2024 Week 14 Black Friday update

As usual, Black Friday is turning into a near full day of games, capped off with Georgia beating rival GT in 8 OT.  Of course, the only thing at risk for Georgia was their safety net going into the CFP.

2024 Week 13 wrap up

Was no one able to follow the script this week and make things easy?  However, we are finally at the point where we can play the "what if" game and look at multiple scenarios.  I still miss the divisional format when the tiebreakers were easier and settled on the field.  Some of the scenarios are going down into the more abstract tiebreakers where I'm largely relying on media outlets and the conferences.

2024 Week 12 wrap-up

Doing the wrap up from a bit of a distance this week, since my teams on a bye and I had other plans on Saturday.  No spots clinched in any of the Power conference championship games this week, but some teams have some shots at clinching next week.  However, I think a lot of the races will come down to the final week.

We're coming down to a crazy finish.  Some teams are making this wrap-up a little too difficult by not going quietly into that good night.

All of the conferences took care of their multiple-undefeated problems.  In fact, the SEC took all of their undefeated teams off the board.

Starting to eliminate some teams from conference races, but I think next week will be where we can really begin to shake off the teams at the bottom of the standings.  It's still too early to be worried about too many tiebreaker scenarios.

Helmet stickers to the Texas fans.  Is throwing trash onto the field a good idea?  Probably not, but apparently it's the only way to hold the officials accountable for bad calls.

A little late on the wrap up, but the potential undefeated conference record chaos calmed down quite a bit.

I've gotten a little behind on the wrap-ups, due to actual life events, not game outcomes.  Although, it does look like we have some ACC controversy brewing in the middle of what might turn out to be a crazy season already.  Either we're getting a lot more parity in the sport, or no one really knows what they're talking about.

Who is eligible for Pac-12 expansion?

The Pac-12, currently sitting at 2 members, announced this week that they will be adding four teams from the Mountain West.  They still need to find at least two more members to be eligible to be a conference, so there is more expansion coming.

Oregon State and Washington State will welcome Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado State.

It appears that a requirement of the new Pac-12 is that members must be a "State" school.  So, who is eligible to be part of the new Pac-12?

2024 Week 3 wrap-up

The college landscape is changing, and we're already seeing the effects in a very interesting start to the season.  

We're down to just four Power conferences at the moment, until we figure out what happens to the Pac-12 as they reload.  All of the rest of the conferences have officially abandoned divisions, so the conference races are turning into free-for-alls.  Honestly, it's taking a lot of fun out of this blog because the paths to conference championship games are less clear.
