Week 14 wrap-up

The regular season is over, on to bowl games!

A very surprising final weekend of college football.

Contrary to what the CBS announcers said, I wouldn't call the SEC Championship game a show of great defensive effort.  Georgia had some really bad offensive drives.  Between hitting the receiver in the ass and the other receiver just dropping a clear touchdown pass, it's no wonder Georgia stopped scoring at 10.

Oklahoma State put on a heck of a show and stated their case for playing in the national championship.  I think they should go there and it will be a better matchup than the LSU-Alabama rematch.

The ACC Championship game had the worst officiating I've ever seen in any football game.  At least four helmet to helmet hits were not flagged (which would have gone for both teams), and Logan Thomas was quite obviously horsecollared with no flag.  And the roughing the punter call was just downright confusing.  By the end of the game, it felt like they were just making penalties up.

Brent Musberger and Kirk Herbstreit need to not call anymore Virginia Tech games.  Okay, let them call the VT-Duke game next season, and we'll see if there's a corrolation.  But so far, Tech loses when those two call the game.

For six years, we've been wanting to see a Virginia Tech-West Virginia rematch, and had it come very close in bowl games.  Usually, WVU or the Big East in general screwed things up.  But we were on track to get that rivalry renewed in the Orange Bowl, and VT screws it up.  Perhaps VT has a shot at a BCS at-large, and the Fiesta or Sugar Bowl is willing to take a chance with that matchup.

Michigan State - ballsy move with the two point conversion.  Too bad you couldn't get the final push at the end.

ESPN's Brad Nessler, while calling the Oklahoma State game, actually spoke some sense. He basically said that maybe the SEC gets a little too much hype, with a fair share of that hype coming from ESPN, and some of the other conferences and teams get overlooked or ignored.  Can he call some VT games?

  2. I looked at ESPN's Bowl announcers, and it looks like Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge will be calling the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. I can handle that.

The Monday Night Football guys are returning for the Orange Bowl, despite the OB being on a Wednesday night.

Here's the link to ESPN's bowl coverage (sorry no hyperlink, but the whole text string is there):

  3. Looks like the CFA Bowl announcers are doing the Sugar Bowl as well. I can handle that, especially after Brad Nessler's insightful comments during the Bedlam game.

It wasn't cool how that announcement tricked me...for a second I thought we were getting Millen/McDonough, but they're on the radio.
