12-team Playoff - What If scenarios

With the creation of the 12 team playoff, we have looked at every postseason since the dawn of the BCS and developed a scenario of what a 12-team tournament would have looked like each season since then.

A three part series:
The Early BCS Era (1998-2005)
The Late BCS Era (2006-2013)
The CFP Era (2014-2023)

These projections are made based off of the original version of the 12-team playoff rules that were originally released in September 2022.  If the embedded tweet still works, you can see the full list in the "CFP Era" post.  But to summarize:
-Six highest ranked conference champs plus six highest-ranked teams not already included.  (Therefore, it is possible to include more than 6 conference champs if they are all ranked in the top 12.)
-Top 4 conference champs get a first round bye, and will be the anchor teams for quarterfinal bowl games.
-Seeds 5-8 will host a first round game.
-Top 4 seeds will be assigned to bowls based on current contracts.

One point that isn't clarified in these guidelines is how to seed the 5th and 6th ranked conference champions.  We have decided to seed them based on ranking order among the six wildcard teams.  In other words, being a conference champ doesn't automatically guarantee a team the 5th or 6th seed.
