Week 14: Games to Watch

This week's slate of games is really easy to pick from.  Most of them are outright conference championships.

Thursday
8 PM
West Virginia vs. South Florida, ESPN.  WV needs a win plus some help to win the Big East.  And I'm liking the potential of a WVU/VT matchup in the Orange Bowl.

Friday
8 PM
Pac-12 Championship:  UCLA vs. Oregon, FOX.  Looks like a one-sided affair.  Hopefully, Fox has found some better announcers since their BCS Bowls.

Saturday
Noon
UConn vs. Cincinnati, ESPN.  Another piece of the Big East puzzle.  A Cinci win would knock Louisville out.  If WVU loses the night before, then Cinci clenches.  If WVU wins, then we're waiting for the BCS Countdown show.

Southern Miss vs. Houston, ABC.  Conference-USA Championship.  A Houston win would assure them of a BCS bowl.

3:30 PM
Texas vs. Baylor, ABC. Nothing on the line here, except maybe RG3's Heisman chances.  And after Baylor's performances the last two weeks, they look like a team that can provide a very entertaining game, even if their highly regarding quarterback is sidelined.

4 PM
SEC Championship:  Georgia vs. LSU, CBS.  If I need to explain this, then you don't care anyway.

8 PM
Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State, ABC.  A virtual conference championship.  And with Alabama idle this week, could OK State get propelled to #2 with a win?

ACC Championship:  Virginia Tech vs. Clemson, ESPN.  VT on the rise, Clemson on the slide.  It's a rematch, and Tech is looking for redemption after getting blown out at home last time.  Grudge matches in the title game have gone well for VT the last two times it happened in 2007 and 2008.

Big Ten Championship:  Michigan State vs. Wisconsin, FOX. This is also a rematch game, and the first matchup was one of the most entertaining and exciting games of the season.  Michigan State won on a last second Hail Mary that had to be reviewed.  Wisconsin is going to be wanting some serious revenge.

Sunday
8:15 PM
BCS Countdown, ESPN.  The BCS Bowls (and possibly the Big East Champion) will be announced.

Plus, one final regular season game the following week, which I don't want to make a separate post about:

Week 15, Saturday, December 10
2:30 PM
Army vs. Navy, CBS.  This game was moved to the second weekend of December to put a spotlight back on it that had been taken away by the championship games.  However, there's nothing much special about this game.  Neither team can win the trophy, since Air Force beat them both, and neither team is bowl eligible.  So maybe we can view this as the first bowl game of the year.

  1. We got Brent and Kirk calling our game (ACC Championship). I enjoy their playcalling immensely, but we tend to lose any game they're doing. Hopefully that changes this weekend!

  2. Wow, I expected them to be calling Bedlam in Oklahoma. But I guess Atlanta to Charlotte is a shorter flight for Herbie.

Perhaps the ACC will get back to ABC since the Big 12 doesn't have a championship game?
