2022 Week 8 Wrap Up

Seems like it was a light week across the board for the Power 5 with a lot of teams on bye.  But, we're clearly getting closer, as several teams have found themselves eliminated or on the verge.

ACC Wheel of Destiny
Atlantic
Controls destiny:
-Clemson (6-0) can clinch with a win OR losses by WF and Syracuse.
W:  Wake Forest, NC State, BC, FSU, Syracuse

Clemson has tiebreakers over everyone in the division except Louisville (who is already eliminated).  Therefore, they would win out in any configuration of ties involving teams at 7-1 or 6-2.

Needs help:
-Syracuse (3-1) will be eliminated with a loss OR Clemson win.  They can clinch by winning out and Clemson losing out.
   W:  Louisville, NC State
   L:  Clemson
-Wake Forest (2-1) will be eliminated with a loss OR Clemson win.  They can clinch by winning out and Clemson losing out.
   W:  FSU, BC
   L:  Clemson

The only scenario where Clemson does not win the division is if they lose out and the winner of the Syracuse/Wake Forest game wins out.  The winner of that game would be 7-1, and everyone else would have 2 or more losses.

Out of contention:
-NC State (1-2)
-Louisville (2-3)
-Florida State (2-3)
-Boston College (1-4)

With Clemson sitting at 6-0 and their worst possible record being 6-2, any team with 3 or more losses is eliminated.  NC State has been eliminated because any multi-team tie they could force would also have to involve Clemson who owns all of the tiebreakers.

Clemson can clinch in week 10 if Syracuse loses that week AND if WF loses in weeks 9 or 10.  Otherwise, they can clinch in week 11 with a win.

Coastal

-Duke (2-2) needs losses by UNC (3) and GT.
   W:  uva, Miami
   L:  GT, UNC

   W:  VT
   L:  GT

SEC
East
Controls destiny:
-Georgia (4-0)
   W:  South Carolina, Missouri, Vandy
-Tennessee (3-0)
   W:  Florida

Needs help:
-South Carolina (2-2) needs 3 losses by Georgia and an additional loss by Tennessee.

   W:  Missouri
   L:  Kentucky, Tennessee

   W:  Vanderbilt
   L:  Georgia, Florida

Just start winning:
-Vanderbilt (0-4)
    L:  Georgia, Missouri

Georgia and Florida play each other next week.  A Georgia win would eliminate Florida and Vanderbilt.  That win combined with a Mizzou loss would eliminate Mizzou.
