Countdown to kickoff: 2012 Wish List

With two weeks until kickoff, it's safe to say that we're back.  It's our first full season of blogging at College Football Arena, and after a long offseason, we're more than ready.  We haven't been as active since January, but over the next couple of weeks, we are going to change that.

We begin our countdown with a compilation of the 2012 Wish List items that were posted during the early months of this year.

1.) A new champion.

This one is simple.  Can we see a national championship game that doesn't end with the SEC winning?  Even better, perhaps we can see a game without the SEC in it at all.

2.)  Virginia Tech, keep moving up in the world.

I'll refer you to the actual post for the majority of my comments.  Basically, VT has been working on breaking through several ceilings for the last decade, hopefully on their way to a national championship.  After tying the regular season win record last year, they were unable to win either postseason game, which would have set the school records for wins in a season.

3.)  New Uniforms.

Okay, so it's not so much that I want new uniforms, I just want good uniforms.  My main concerns in that area:
-Virginia Tech - let's forget about using orange as anything other than a highlight color.  While we're at it, let's get back to a more modern design for the uniform.  The retro look has run its course.
-Nike - stop designing ugly Pro-Combats.  I don't want to see games that look like Power Rangers vs. the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.
-Penn State - spice up the unis.  Slap a logo on the helmet, break up the solid colors on the jerseys.  Help me tell you apart from Navy and Notre Dame.  And generate some good buzz for the school after the crap year you've had.  Although, your coach might be on the same track.
4.)  Keep Kirk Herbstreit away from the VT/GT Labor Day game.

Virginia Tech has not fared well with Herbstreit calling their games.  That, and I've also lost a lot of respect for Herbstreit due to his biased analysis last season.  He has a list of teams that he likes, and he pushes for them, but when there's a team he's not so hot on, he really dishes on them.  What is sad is how he was kind of high on VT at the beginning of the season as a dark horse candidate for a national title, but as soon as they lost a game, he's calling all sorts of crap on them.  I also view him as leading the ESPN charge for the LSU/Alabama matchup in the title game.

5.)  Playoffs....Oh wait...we got that one, it's just a two year waiting game.
So, we're not asking for a lot here.   #1 and #4 are things that could be accomplished this year.  #2 is more of a long term goal, and #3 has a slight chance of happening within the next couple of years.
14 days until kickoff...
