2022 Week 7 Wrap up

Oh boy, Tennessee beat Alabama, and it's gonna make things fun in the SEC.

ACC Wheel of Destiny
Atlantic
Controls destiny:
-Clemson (5-0)
W:  Wake Forest, NC State, BC, FSU
-Syracuse (3-0)
   W:  Louisville, NC State

Needs help:
-Wake Forest (1-1) needs 2 Clemson losses.
   W:  FSU
   L:  Clemson
-NC State (1-2) needs losses by Clemson (3) and Syracuse (3).
   W:  FSU
   L:  Clemson, Syracuse

Just start winning:
-Louisville (1-3) will be eliminated with a loss OR Clemson win.
   L:  Syracuse, FSU, BC

Out of control:
-Florida State (2-3) will be eliminated with a loss OR Clemson win.
   W:  Louisville, BC
L:  Wake Forest, NC State, Clemson
-Boston College (1-3) will be eliminated with a loss OR Clemson win.
   W:  Louisville
   L:  FSU, Clemson

For FSU and BC, their only (slim) chance at winning the division would have to involve either team winning out while Clemson loses out, and forcing a multi-team tie at 5-3.  Louisville still has a slight chance to outright win the division because they have yet to play Clemson, so they have the chance to get a head-to-head tiebreaker.

Clemson and Syracuse play each other next weekend in a battle for first place, but then just as we get to the verge of one of them clinching the division, we run into the usual midseason combo of bye week and non-conference games.  The earliest that the Atlantic can be clinched is week 10 on November 5 (and only if Clemson beats Syracuse).

Coastal
Controls destiny:
-UNC (3-0)
   W:  VT, Miami, Duke
-Georgia Tech (2-1)
   W:  Pitt, Duke

Needs help:
-Pitt (1-1) needs a GT loss.
   W:  VT
   L:  GT
-Miami (1-1) needs two UNC losses.
   W:  VT
   L:  UNC
-Duke (1-2) needs losses by UNC (3) and GT.
   W:  uva
   L:  GT, UNC

Just start winning:
-Virginia Tech (1-3)
   L:  UNC, Pitt, Miami
-uva (0-2)
   L:  Duke

SEC
East
Controls destiny:
-Georgia (4-0)
   W:  South Carolina, Missouri, Vandy
-Tennessee (3-0)
   W:  Florida

Needs help:
-South Carolina (1-2) needs 3 losses by Georgia and an additional loss by Tennessee.
   W:  Kentucky
   L:  Georgia
-Kentucky (2-2) needs a loss by South Carolina plus additional losses by Georgia and Tennessee.

   W:  Missouri
   L:  Kentucky, Tennessee

Just start winning:
-Vanderbilt (0-3)
    L:  Georgia
-Mizzou (0-3)
   L:  Georgia, Florida

Georgia and Florida have a bye next week and play each other the week after.  A Georgia win would eliminate Florida.

Controls destiny:
-Ole Miss (3-0)
   W:  Auburn
-Alabama (3-1)
   W:  Arkansas, Texas A&M
-LSU (3-1)
   W:  Mississippi State, Auburn

  1. I always appreciate the weekly wrap-ups!

    Just one comment:
LSU beat Mississippi State back in Week 3. That puts LSU at 3-1 in conference play, and MSU at 2-2.

    1. Ah, they snuck that one in on me. ESPN's schedule had that game at the bottom and Georgia/USCe on the top, with all of the non-con games in between. I must have gotten lazy and assumed it was another non-con game at the bottom. I've updated the post.
