Week 8 wrap up

When the NCAA refuses to punish a school for cheating, it's left to the teams on the field.

Bowl ineligible teams with an asterisk are sitting at 7 losses, and might be able to make a bowl depending on availability and APR rankings.

ACC
Coastal
Controls destiny:
Miami (4-0) has tiebreakers over Duke and GT.
VT (2-1) has a tiebreaker over UNC.
UVA (2-1) has a tiebreaker over Duke and UNC.

Needs help:
GT (3-1) needs two Miami losses, but has tiebreakers over Pitt and UNC.
Pitt (1-3) needs 3 GT losses, plus extra losses from Miami (x2), VT, and UVA.  They have a tiebreaker over Duke.  They will be eliminated with a loss and a Miami win.

Out of control:
Duke (1-4) lost to Miami, UVA, and Pitt.  They beat UNC.  At best, they could force a multi-way tie of 4 loss teams.  They will be eliminated with a loss or Miami win.

Out of contention:
UNC (0-5) lost to VT, UVA, Duke, and GT.

Atlantic
Controls destiny:
NC State (4-0) has tiebreakers over FSU, Louisville, and Syracuse.
Clemson (4-1) has tiebreakers over Louisville and BC.  They lost to Syracuse.

Florida State (2-3) needs four NC State losses and a Louisville loss.  They have a tiebreaker over WF.

Just start winning:
Wake Forest (0-3) lost to FSU and Clemson.

Since NC State and Clemson have yet to play each other, we know that one of them will have at least 5 wins.  That means that any 3 loss Atlantic team is eliminated with a loss.

Bowl eligible:  Clemson, NC State, VT, Miami
One win away:  UVA, Louisville
Not bowl eligible:  UNCheat*

LSU successfully defended the Championship of Life again.  After a bye week, Alabama will be the next challenger.  I expect Alabama to take the fun out of yet another part of college football.
