2021 Black Friday update

We still have a full slate of Saturday games, but thanks to the extended holiday weekend, we had a decent set of Friday games that helped shape the conference races.  While no one was able to clinch a championship game berth, every division with multiple contenders managed to narrow that number down to two.

Just a reminder that most of the conferences use these steps for tiebreakers:
-Conference record
-Head-to-head results (between two teams or within the group of teams)
-Divisional record

In multi-team ties, once a team gets eliminated, the remaining teams go back through that list of tiebreakers until all but one team is eliminated.  Obviously, there are more tiebreakers, but none of the scenarios this year require going further down the list.

ACC Wheel of Destiny
Atlantic
The NC State victory over UNC eliminated Clemson from contention.

Key matchup:  Wake Forest at Boston College - noon, ESPN2.

If Wake Forest (6-1) wins, they clinch the division by virtue of the best record.

If Boston College wins, then NC State (6-2) clinches the division.
(Three-way tie between NC State/WF/Clemson.  NC State clinches based on divisional record and then head-to-head over Clemson.)

Coastal Champions:  Pitt Panthers (6-1)
Pitt currently has the best record in the division.  The only way a tiebreaker would come into play is if Pitt and VT both lose in the final week.

SEC Championship:  Georgia Bulldogs (8-0) vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (6-1)
Georgia won the East by having the best (undefeated) record.  Alabama will represent the West, either by virtue of the best record (if they win) or a tiebreaker over Ole Miss (in the event of an Auburn victory).

Big Ten (B1G)
East
Key matchup:  Ohio State at Michigan - noon, FOX.  *Winner-take-all*

OSU (8-0) would win by virtue of the best record.  Michigan (7-1) would win by virtue of the head-to-head over OSU.

West
Iowa won on Friday, moving up to 7-2.  As a result, Minnesota (5-3) is eliminated from contention, and now the Purdue (5-3) game no longer has any bearing on the division title.

Key matchup:  Wisconsin at Minnesota - 4 PM, FOX.

If Wisconsin (6-2) wins, they will clinch the division due to a head-to-head tiebreaker over Iowa.

If Wisconsin loses, Iowa will clinch with the best record in the division.

Pac-12
North
With Washington State (6-3) winning on Friday night, Oregon State (5-3) at Oregon (6-2) no longer has the chance to be a winner-take-all game for the division, as Oregon State has been eliminated.

Key matchup:  Oregon State at Oregon - 3:30 PM, ESPN.

If Oregon (6-2) wins, they clinch the division with the best record.

If Oregon State (5-3) wins, then Washington State (6-3) clinches the division.
(Three-way tie between Oregon/Oregon State/Washington State comes down to divisional records.)

South Champions:  Utah Utes (8-1)
Utah clinched the division by virtue of the best record.

Big 12
Oklahoma State (7-1) has already clinched a spot in the championship game.

Still in contention for the other spot are:
Oklahoma (7-1) - lost to Baylor
Baylor (6-2) - tiebreaker over Oklahoma, lost to Oklahoma State

Key matchup #1:  Texas Tech at Baylor - noon, FS1.
If Baylor wins, they can clinch with an Oklahoma loss.
If Baylor loses, then Oklahoma has clinched the other championship berth.

Key matchup #2:  Oklahoma at Oklahoma State - 7:30 PM, ESPN.
If Baylor loses earlier in the day, this game is just to determine seeding in the Big 12 title game.  (Not sure if that really matters.)
If Baylor wins, then Oklahoma needs to win to clinch a spot.

Oklahoma can clinch a spot with a win OR Baylor loss.
Baylor can clinch a spot with a win AND an Oklahoma loss.
